SUSSEX & THE SITE
As a result of the river’s industrial past the town centre has evolved with little riverside amenity and has few spaces from which to view or access it.
Regeneration of North Street Quarter could open up the river, providing places along it to sit, eat, drink, meet and to enjoy views of the surrounding countryside, or of the town. This would reinforce and improve the view of Lewes from the surrounding National Park, rather than detract as it does today.
Incorporating and celebrating the site’s historic past by telling its story with the development could provide a further aspect of the town’s fabric for visitors to discover and could also help to enhance tourism.
