We are delighted to feature a rendition of North Street Quarter by 11-year-old Rowan Blake from Lewes. It was sent to us by his mother, Sarah, who told us that Rowan used the computer generated animation of the development on the NSQ website as a guide for his drawing.
Sarah said: “Rowan is fascinated by architecture and gets me to take him to new housing estates, especially contemporary ones. He is constantly drawing plans, new buildings, floor plans and road layouts.”
Rowan’s drawing has won praise from North Street Quarter’s architects, including Ben Otter from Axis Architecture who said: “I think this is a very accomplished drawing. It shows a maturity of taste to select one of the finest views through the scheme, with castle framed by the new riverside buildings. There seems to me to be hints of one of my favourite artists Giorgio de Chirico, in the depiction of space, perspective and people… quite a work of art…I look forward to seeing more of these in the future!”
Phil Naylor from RH Partnership said: “A very valiant effort indeed – it’s great to have this kind of engagement with the worlds we could live in, especially from one so young. I wish more kids could be so inspiring – keep up the great work.”
We look forward to seeing more from Rowan – watch this space!
